Admissions

The Governing Body of Heybridge Primary School welcome applications for admission to the school from parents who wish their children to be admitted in the September of the school year in which they become 5 years of age. Parents should apply by post or online to the Local Education Authority by the closing date.

Applications received after the closing date will be considered by the LEA and added to this list.

The current published admission number (PAN) for Heybridge Primary School is 60 for 2022/23 and it will remain at 60 for the 2023/24 academic year.

Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to determine which children to admit:

  1. Looked after or previously looked after children;
  2. Medical or social needs;
  3. Whether the child has a brother or sister attending the school;
  4. Proximity of home to school by straight line distance, those living nearer being given the highest priority.

If you have any other admissions queries or would like to make an appointment to visit the School as a prospective parent / carer, please don't hesitate to contact the School Office on 01621 854082 option 1.

Appeals against admission decisions.

  • If your application is unsuccessful you have the right to an independent appeal panel for a place at any school for which you applied and have been refused a place. Please visit www.essex.gov.uk/topic/admissions and follow the link 'After your school offer' for more information about this. This information will also be included in your offer pack. Notice of appeal should be sent to the Clerk to the Independent Appeal Panel, PO Box 11, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 1LX

  • In reception, year 1 and year 2 classes are limited to 30 children. You should note that if you are appealing an infant size class limit, your chance of a successful appeal is limited.

Mid Year Admissions

Essex County Council have informed all academies that with effect from 1 April 2022 the process for managing in-year admissions will change and they will no longer be co-ordinatoing in-year admissions for academies. This change is due to the reduction in capacity at the local authority, resulting in them no longer being able to facilitate the in-year admissions for schools, other than for LA maintained provision.  This is reflected in ECC's co-ordinated admissions scheme available on their website.  ECC will continue to co-ordinate the Reception and Y7 applications for all schools and academies.  The changes that ECC are bringing into effect aligns the process already undertaken in secondary schools across the area, whereby all secondary academies manage their own in-year admissions.

As a result of this change, we are currently in the process of seeking a variation to our determined admission policy for 2021-22 to remove the reference to in-year admissions being co-ordinated by ECC.  Should this be approved, the change will be reflected in the policies for 2022-23 and 2023-24.
