Remote Learning

Remote Learning Provision Expectations

Remote Learning will be offered to most children in Years R-6 via Google Classroom.

Children in EYFS will use a blend of activities on Google Classroom and on Tapestry.

In cases where children are unable to access Google Classroom, Parents and Carers should contact the  school office to discuss what alternative provision can be made.

A timetable for online learning will be available for each class in the relevant Google Classroom Stream. A whole school timetable will  be available via the school website if needed.

Children will be expected to complete and submit learning tasks on the day that it is set. Teachers might require children to ‘Hand in’ work by a specific time to ensure that they have adequate time to assess work and provide feedback before the following lesson.

Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom for the day, before the beginning of the school day.

Marking can take a variety of forms including:

  • A general comment posted as a private comment on the child’s handed in work
  • Feedback provided verbally during live sessions or as comments on Google Documents given in ‘real time’ as the children are working.

Input for non-live sessions could be in the form of an introduction video for Writing and Maths Sessions. These can be produced by the teacher.

Input for broader curriculum lessons will vary from assignment to assignment.

Notes regarding ‘live sessions’:

In most cases a second adult will be present during live sessions, for example a member of classroom support staff will join the session. Where this is not possible, the session will be recorded using the record meeting facility of Google Meet.

Live Registration session:

  • Children who are self isolating will be expected to join a Live Registration Session via Google Meet. Teachers will share a Meet Link via the Class Stream.
  • Upcoming learning will  be  discussed in this session and teachers should answer any  general questions that the children might have about the home learning.

Writing Session:

  • Writing activities will be set on Google Classroom to, wherever possible, reflect the learning that would have taken place in class.
  • At the teachers discretion, ‘Immersion activities’ where the children explore an idea, theme or topic before writing may also form the basis of lessons.
  • Work should be ‘Handed In’ via the Google Classroom at the end of each session in order for it to be assessed.

Live Reading Session:

  • Reading Sessions will take place via a Google Meet Link shared in the class stream.
  • This lesson will replicate the structure of a Heybridge Reading Lesson as much as is possible.
  • Work should be ‘Handed In’ via the Google Classroom at the end of each session in order for it to be assessed.
  • Teachers might select individual children or small groups to support during independent learning. Other children should remain on the call, but will be muted by the teacher.

Maths Sessions

  • Wherever possible, Maths assignments will follow the teaching sequence established by the Mathematics Mastery Curriculum.
  • Work should be ‘Handed In’ via the Google Classroom at the end of each session in order for it to be assessed.

Live Maths Meetings

  • Maths meetings will take place via a Google Meet Link shared in the class stream.
  • Children will be  encouraged to respond orally in ‘choral response’ and to work independently to respond to quick activities intended to recap, reinforce and revisit past learning.

Broader Curriculum Work:

  • This should be set on the Google Classroom and will vary depending on the curriculum area being covered and the type of assignment that will be set.
  • Appropriate introduction and explanatory resources in the form of fact sheets/videos will be provided.

Live Phonics Sessions:

  • Review, revisit and teach sections of our Phonics provision will take place via a Google Meet Link shared in the class stream.
  • Links to resources will allow the children to practise and apply their learning.
  • Activities might include:
    • A word reading activity
    • Bingo or picture to word matching.
    • A link to a Phonics Play activity to match pictures to words.
    • Reading of the decodable phonic texts (which children should already have at home).
    • Teachers might support identified groups of children during these sessions.
