Attendance - Making Every Day Count!

Heybridge Primary School recognises that positive behaviour and good attendance are essential in order to raise standards of pupil attainment and to give every child/young person the best educational experience possible.

With this in mind our school ethos is:

  • promote children’s welfare and safeguarding

  • ensure every pupil has access to the full time education to which they are entitled

  • ensure that pupils succeed whilst at school

  • ensure that pupils have access to the widest possible range of opportunities at school, and when they leave school

For our children to gain the greatest benefit from their education it is vital that they attend regularly and be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. It is a rule of this school that pupils must attend every day, unless there are exceptional circumstances and it is the Head Teacher, not the parent, who can authorise the absence.

Gates open: 8:40am-8:55am  (any child arriving after this time must come through the school office)

Morning register taken: 8:55am

Afternoon register taken: 1pm

School finishes: 3:15pm

Will 1 day off really make a difference to my child's education?

YES!!

Did you know, that by the end of the first half term, a child with an attendance of 95%  will have lost 10 hours of learning time, the equivalent to 2 days?

Doesn't sound too bad?

But, by the end of the last school term (the end of the academic year), a child with an attendance on 95% will have lost a whopping 50 hours of learning time, equivalent to 10 days!

Guide to absence by half term a rough guide

There will undoubtedly be days when your child is too unwell to attend school, but there may also be occasions when you are not sure if they are 'ill enough' for a day off!  The traffic light tool below gives parents a quick answer at a glance!
