Nursery
Our Nursery class is very much part of our school community. The overall running of our Nursery is led by Miss Smith who is the school’s EYFS Lead with the support of our team of Nursery practitioners.
Our Nursery is open five days a week with three choices of sessions each day.
- Morning session-8.45-11.45
- Afternoon session- 12.30-3.30
- All day session- 8.45-2.45
We take children from the age of 2 until they start Reception full time.
The children in Nursery have the opportunity to learn through purposeful play. We believe learning should be fun, engaging and suitably challenging. We are committed to providing the best possible start to their school life, teaching our children skills and giving them experiences which ensure their well-being now and success in the future.
The environment provides a wide variety of age appropriate resources, with continuous provision and enhancements as part of planned topics as well as those based on the children’s own interests and experiences.
Children are able to access resources independently from each area and use them how they choose, for their own purposes to develop their own learning and understanding of the world around them.
Children are taught in the indoor and outdoor areas through specific teaching (Phonics, guided work), supporting children through child initiated activities based around their interests and adult initiated activities.
Staff continually observe and assess children’s learning and development and use this information in discussion with other members of the team to plan relevant, engaging and challenging activities which meet each child’s individual needs.

For your child to keep their place at the Nursery, you must pay the fees by the required date indicated in the fees emails sent. We are in receipt of government funding for three and four year olds; where funding is not received, then fees apply.
All children are entitled to 15 hours of government funded sessions per week, the term after they have reached their 3rd birthday. The cut off dates are 31st March, 31st August and 31st December. This must be re applied for every 3 months by the parent/guardian. Extra sessions above these hours will be charged for.
Some families are entitled to 30 hours funding depending on their circumstances. To find out more about funding please visit: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
Once started, fees are payable for every session booked whether your child attends or is absent through illness or any other reason (unless the Pre-school is closed for the day).
The Key Worker System
When your child starts at the Nursery your child will be allocated a key worker. The key worker will help your child to settle into Nursery and keep a watchful eye on them, assisting them to integrate into the group as necessary. The key worker will observe, keep records, monitor the child’s progress and liaise with parents. This will enable them to provide a learning environment to suit each child.
Record Keeping
Each child’s development in these areas is observed and assessed allowing key workers to plan for individual children’s next steps. We use an online Learning journal called ‘Tapestry’ to record all of your child’s development, progress and achievements whilst at Nursery. You will have a private login to allow you access to the learning journey at any time and we encourage you to add to this with your own photos and observations of your child whilst at home. We encourage parents to become involved in their child’s development by contributing information about their child and by having regular chats with their keyworker.
School Uniform
All children are required to wear a school uniform which consists of a red or white polo-shirt, black trousers, skirt, dress or shorts, red gingham dress, red jumper or cardigan.
We also ask that you send your child in an appropriate pair of trousers or skirt black in colour, that are easy for them to manage when going to the toilet. Jogging bottoms are recommended. Shoes should be something children can manage on their own e.g. no laces, and nothing too heavy soled. A change of clothing is a good idea in case of accidents. These can be hung on your child’s coat peg and left at Nursery. A drawstring bag is best as it is less bulky. A pair of Wellingtons is recommended for outdoor play – please make sure they have your child’s name inside.
Snack
Children are provided with a healthy snack each morning and afternoon, which usually consists of fruit. We also have milk or water to drink. Snack is a social occasion and we also encourage children to develop their independent skills.
