Design technology
At Heybridge, our Design and Technology (DT) curriculum offers practical and inspiring experiences for our pupils. In DT, pupils are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity across a variety of contexts. We strive to foster resourcefulness, enterprising spirits, and a willingness to take risks when it comes to designing and making products. Our goal is to develop pupils who have a critical understanding of how design and technology shape their everyday lives.
According to the National Curriculum, pupils should:
‘develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world’
At Heybridge Primary, the foundations of our DT curriculum are built upon key concepts of mechanics, nutrition, structure and function, and purpose including use of ICT. Through progressive learning, our pupils gradually develop a deep understanding of these concepts, engaging in projects that integrate different subject areas. As they advance through the key stages, our pupils apply their knowledge and skills to design and create products that address real-world problems. This approach encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and a practical application of their learning.
